Hosapete: A newborn was allegedly sold for Rs 10,000 at the 60-bed govt hospital in Hosapete. The rescued baby is now under the care of a govt-run special adoption centre.Police registered a case against four individuals, including two ASHA workers, in connection with the incident that took place on Aug 31.A woman from Kamalapur town in Hosapete taluk gave birth to a baby girl at the hospital on Aug 26. Five days later, the infant was allegedly sold to Karibasappa, a resident of Hagaribommanahalli, police said.After getting a tip-off on the child helpline, Chidanand, coordinator of District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), filed a police complaint. In his statement, Chidanand said they got to know about the issue after someone within the hospital alerted them. Four people, including two ASHA workers Kavitha M and Nagarathna, have been arrested.Police said the two ASHA workers forced the new mother to sell the baby for money. A case was registered at Hosapete town police station.
