Ghaziabad: District magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar has ordered an inquiry after wholesale traders of Sahibabad Mandi alleged that traders’ licenses were suspended and notices were issued in a biased manner following a clash at the mandi in Aug.On Aug 12, during a mandi association meeting, traders accused the market secretary of illegally granting possession of platforms to trader Harish Chaudhary, his sons, and associates. An altercation broke out, and Harish allegedly opened fire. A trader was hit by a bullet and is still recovering. Police later arrested eight people in the case, including Chaudhary .Following the incident, the license of eight wholesaler traders was suspended by the committee secretary for allegedly holding the meeting without permission. Notices were served to 72 others to cancel their licenses if they do not justify why they attended the meeting. The secretary of the mandi, Sunil Sharma, said he was not aware of any meeting of the association. Traders, however, said this was unjustified. On Thursday, wholesale traders met the DM at the collectorate, claiming that the action taken by the mandi committee secretary against traders was unfair. Bijendra Yadav, one of the traders who met the DM, told TOI, “The traders of the Sahibabad Mandi can hold meetings at the premises of the mandi without asking for permissions; this does not justify the suspension of licenses.” Traders also sought stronger security arrangements inside the mandi.“Following the Aug 12 incident, while the police continue their investigation, we have demanded that the suspended licenses and notices be taken back. Without licenses, we cannot run our business ,” said Yadav. The district magistrate assured the delegation that their complaint would be looked into.”An inquiry team has been constituted, which will conduct a field inspection and examine all points before submitting its report. Only after considering every aspect can fair action be taken,” Kumar said.
