Karnataka cinema price cap: ₹200 max on tickets, but your popcorn may cost more

Moviegoers in Karnataka can now breathe a little easier: the state government has capped cinema ticket prices at ₹200 across all theatres, including multiplexes. Issued under the Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) (Amendment) Rules, 2025, the order sets ₹200 as the maximum base price for a ticket, exclusive of taxes. That said, the movie-going experience still comes with exceptions and add-ons. Here’s a breakdown of what will cost what:

Tickets:

  • Single-screen theatres: ₹200 max
  • Multiplex standard screens: ₹200 max
  • Gold Class / Premium halls (≤75 seats): Exempted, prices can go higher

Extras you’ll still pay for:

GST and other applicable taxes. Internet booking charges on online platforms.

Across show timings:

Morning shows, matinees, evenings, and weekend screenings: all capped at ₹200

Snacks and beverages:

  • l No cap o n prices — popcorn, nachos, and beverages will continue at multiplex-set rates
  • l In many cases, snacks may still cost more than the ticket itself
