Patna: A community or banquet hall is set to be constructed in the city’s Kadamkuan vending zone, spanning 11,000 square feet. The hall will be built on top of the existing two floors. The main objective of this expansion is to provide better facilities to vendors and create a larger space for community activities. Developed by the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC), the hall can be booked by the general public for social events and functions.Ashish Sinha, councillor of Ward-38 under PMC, said, “The responsibility for its construction has been given to Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO). The tender for the development of the community or banquet hall will be issued by the end of this month. To be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 4.9 crore approximately, the banquet hall will be developed on the terrace of the two-storey vending zone building.” After its construction, the public will be able to make bookings in it.In Feb 2025, CM Nitish Kumar inaugurated the two-storey vending zone in Kadamkuan, developed at a cost of Rs 9.03 crore. For the first time, 150 street vendors in the city were allocated stalls at a dedicated vending zone. The stalls were provided to vendors registered with PMC. These vendors are charged a monthly rent of Rs 1000. The shops remain open from 5 am to 10 pm. This is the city’s first vending zone constructed entirely of steel, using approximately 400 tons of steel.Meanwhile, the first floor of the Kadamkuan vending zone will be developed as a pink zone, where only women vendors will sell vegetables and other homemade items. Additionally, considering the sanitation needs of these women vendors, there are plans to build a pink toilet.“The city residents gave a very positive response to the Kadamkuan vending zone. The people living in the area prefer to buy vegetables here due to the good quality and variety in one place. As per the preference of the women, the PMC has planned to develop a pink market area, especially for women,” Sinha said.Sinha added that, seeing the flow of visitors and buyers at the vending zone, PMC has also planned to develop an automated parking space here with a pre-fabricated structure.
