Jaipur: A 42-year-old retired soldier died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in city’s Sodala area Friday morning in what police suspect to be a case of alleged suicide.SHO (Sodala) Rajesh Sharma said the deceased, identified as Bhuvnesh Jat was found around 9:30am at his residence in Shiv Colony near Rankdi locality in Sodala.The deceased, as per the police, was alone at home at the time of shooting. Police said both gates of the house were locked from inside. On hearing the gunshot, a neighbour rushed to the spot and heard groans from inside. Jat, bleeding heavily, managed to drag himself to the gate, unlock it, and collapsed soon after.At the time of the incident, his wife was out, and his 17-year-old son was attending a computer class. The police team that reached the scene found that the firing took place from a 12-bore gun, and live cartridges were recovered from the room. One round was fired, hitting Jat in the stomach.Preliminary investigation suggests Jat placed the butt of the gun on the bed and aimed the barrel at his stomach before pulling the trigger. Police found burn marks on the bed, apparently from sparks of the shot. The firearm has been seized for forensic examination.Originally from Barkheda in Karauli, Jat was working as a security guard at a gold firm in C-Scheme.His wife told police she initially suspected the death to be accidental while he was cleaning the barrel, but police said that they have begun a detailed probe into the circumstances. The body was shifted to SMS Hospital for post-mortem. Police said multiple angles, including domestic issues, are being investigated.“We cannot rule out anything before the compilation of the probe. Forensic reports and medical investigation will shed light on the matter,” said an official.
