Varanasi: A tiff in gym over use of dumbbells led to a scuffle and culminated in indiscriminate firing in Sultanpur village under Ramnagar police station late Friday late night. Four assailants, on two motorcycles attacked the house of a rival with firearms, causing panic in the trans-Ganga Janakpur area, near Durga Temple.DCP Kashi Zone Gaurav Banswal on Saturday said that on the complaint of Saurabh Sharma, named FIR was lodged against Vivek Singh and his three accomplices. CCTV footage and other evidence were being checked to verify the claims of firing by the assailants. All accused were absconding and police teams were engaged for their arrest, he added.During investigation, it came to light that the shooting was result of a dispute in the gym between Saurabh and Harsh Upadhyaya on Sept 8, followed by a scuffle the same day. Saurabh, son of head constable Upendra Sharma, lodged a complaint with Ramnagar police. Harsh’s friend Vivek, called Upendra and questioned why police complaint was lodged. Efforts were made for a settlement, but the dispute escalated to gunfire. ADCP Kashi Zone T Saravanan, who reached the scene on Friday night, said five teams, including surveillance cell, were engaged to work out the case at the earliest.
