Gorakhpur: On the eve of Hindi Diwas, the department of Hindi at Maharana Pratap Mahavidyalaya, Jungle Dhusad, organised a special lecture session on Saturday.Delivering the keynote address, Prof Rajesh Mall from the department of Hindi of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University urged the inclusion of regional literature in Hindi curricula to strengthen cultural understanding. He underlined the historical significance of Sept 14, 1949, when the Constituent Assembly adopted Hindi as the official language of the Union. Prof Mall highlighted the role of leaders like Kaka Kalelkar, Hazari Prasad Dwivedi and Seth Govind Das in strengthening Hindi in the post-Independence era.While acknowledging Hindi’s place as a link language, he stressed the need to enrich it as a ‘language of knowledge’, comparable to Sanskrit, Tamil, Persian and Urdu. He further urged the inclusion of regional literature in Hindi curricula to strengthen cultural understanding. Presiding over the event, Aarti Singh, Hindi HoD, quoted Bharatendu Harishchandra to underline the role of language in national progress. She said Hindi Diwas not only nurtures cultural unity but also brings global recognition and pride in one’s mother tongue. “We must learn English, but live in Hindi with pride,” she added.
