Lucknow: Property owners and businesses in the city were assured relief as Mayor Sushma Kharakwal on Friday warned LMC officials against harassment and negligence in tax collection. She stated that property tax bills already paid must not be revised after April 1, 2022 and held officials accountable for any such cases. To check irregularities, she ordered the rotation of revenue inspectors every three years and directed them to focus on big defaulters—hotels, shops, commercial complexes, stadiums and govt offices—rather than burdening small households. Pending name-change cases must also be cleared without troubling citizens, she stressed.Weekly review meetings will now be held every Saturday, with strict action against poor performers and rewards for achievers. A survey of hospitals, clinics and liquor shops will be carried out to raise revenue and anti-encroachment drives will be made permanent.“Strengthening LMC’s finances is crucial, but it should not come at the cost of public harassment,” Kharakwal said.
