Ranchi: The third National Lok Adalat (NLA), which was held across the state on Saturday, disposed of 1,60,032 pending cases and 19,01,846 pre-litigation disputes, resulting in settlement of money amounting to Rs 924.93 crore, the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) said.Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan inaugurated the NLA in all 24 districts of the state through virtual mode at a function in Kerketta Auditorium, Army Cantonment, Dipatoli. The JHALSA had created 288 benches across the state in this regard. Speaking on the occasion, the CJ stated that NLA provides speedy and amicable dispute resolution, adding that among its key features are no court fees. There is also procedural flexibility.He said that the NLA is invaluable for resolving a wide array of disputes adding the initiative is crucial in significantly reducing the burden on the courts. The CJ also distributed cheques among dependents of five motor accident victims. In Ranchi district court, during the NLA on Saturday, a total of 40,836 pending cases and 2,08,097 pre-litigation disputes were resolved,and an amount totaling Rs.296.58 crore were settled. A total compensation amount of Rs 8.70 crore was distributed among 82 vehicle accident victims.The district court had formed 34 benches for judicial magistrates and 19 benches for executive magistrates for the NLA. During preparation the district legal service authority (DLSA) Ranchi had held meetings with judicial magistrates, bank and insurance company representatives, police and district administration officials and sent a maximum number of notices to the litigants.
