Thiruvananthapuram: Vithura police are searching for Aryanad village officer Pramod in connection with a hit-and-run case involving the death of an elderly man. The investigation revealed that the vehicle involved in the accident was owned by Pramod. However, his lawyer informed the police that Pramod was not driving the vehicle and he has not yet appeared before police.Despite this, police believe that the village officer was driving the vehicle and have begun collecting CCTV footage to verify this. They are also seeking the mobile tower location of the village officer at the time of the accident. Vithura native Maniyan Swamy, 85, died after being hit by a white car while he was sleeping inside a bus shelter at Poovatte near Vithura on Sunday night.“After tracing the registration number of the vehicle from CCTV footage, we contacted the village officer directly on Tuesday. Later, his lawyer contacted us and on Wednesday, the vehicle was found abandoned in front of the police station. We asked the village officer to appear before the police with the vehicle, but someone left the vehicle here and escaped. We suspect the vehicle was driven by him, but it has to be verified through investigation,” police stated.Since the charge against him under section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita is bailable, the probe team may not attempt to arrest the village officer but will persuade him to appear before police to complete the procedures.Swamy used to sleep at the bus shelter as he was unmarried and did not own a house. Being one of ten children in his family, Maniyan became homeless when the ancestral property was portioned. He worked as an assistant to a priest at a Shiva temple in Vithura until a few months ago. Later, he gave up the job.
