Noida: The Greater Noida Authority has slapped a penalty of Rs 54 lakh on seven builders after inspections revealed that the Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) at their societies were not functional, resulting in the discharge of untreated sewage into drains.Prerna Singh, additional CEO of GNIDA, said the Authority is working towards ensuring 100% treatment and reuse of sewage generated in Greater Noida. “Under the directions of CEO NG Ravi Kumar, STPs are being constructed across Greater Noida and Greater Noida West. However, some builders in Greater Noida have been negligent in treating the sewage from their high-rise residential buildings and are discharging it directly into drains without treatment,” the official said.“Operating STPs in builder societies is mandatory for sewage treatment. Strict action will be taken against those who discharge untreated sewage into drains,” she added.Builders have been warned that FIRs will be filed in accordance with the orders of the NGT and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) if violations are found during re-inspection.Those fined include builders of Rajhans Residency (Rs 5 lakh), Paramount Emotions (Rs 5 lakh), Devika Homes (Rs 10 lakh), Capital Athena (Rs 5 lakh), Panchsheel Hynish (Rs 12 lakh), all in Sector 1, JM Florence in Sector Tech Zone 4 (Rs 5 lakh), and Panchsheel Greens 2, Sector 16 (Rs 12 lakh).
