Imphal: Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam said PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Manipur was not only a disappointment but a big-time insult to the suffering people of Manipur, reports Donald Sairem. The PM’s visit simply revolved around unveiling development projects and lacked a sincere approach to resolving the ongoing crisis spanning over 28 months in the state, the MP said on Saturday.“Earlier, we thought that the Prime Minister is visiting Manipur with a commitment to restore peace and normalcy in the state. But in his speech, he (the PM) never acknowledged the crisis, which has resulted in loss of many lives, and rather made the crisis invisible,” Bimol stated.Bimol further lambasted the Prime Minister for allegedly denying the existence of the crisis, which he said the Prime Minister has been doing for more than two years. Other than the familiar praise of Manipur excelling in sports and culture, the Prime Minister never deliberated on concrete steps being planned by the government to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur, he said, alleging that the PM Modi has inflicted the biggest violence on the Manipuri people by failing to acknowledge their plights and sufferings. He went on to say that the Prime Minister not announcing time-bound measures to resettle IDPs, or ensure everyone’s access to hospitals and highways, is an insult to the people of Manipur. “The PM should have announced a special package to rebuild the state’s economy, battered by the conflict. He has been a disappointment for us throughout the crisis, and with his visit, he lived up to that image of insensitivity to the suffering of the Manipuri people, His visit was not well-intentioned to resolve the crisis, and we feel let down,” Bimol said.Meanwhile, former Manipur CM and senior Congress leader Okram Ibobi, stated that the PM’s speech was the opposite of what people expected. When the Manipur BJP leaders said the PM’s visit would usher in peace and normalcy, we were expecting something in this regard. His visit is a disappointment, and there’s nothing positive we can expect as an outcome from his visit, Ibobi said.
